I began working for Chestnut Knoll At Home during college. At that point, I was interested in a career in health care but had never consistently worked with patients. My experiences as a caregiver ended up profoundly shaping my future career decisions. The people I met and the stories I was privileged to hear inspired me to apply to medical school, and I was supported the entire way by the team at Chestnut Knoll. As I’ve gone through medical school at the University of Pennsylvania, the skills and experience I gained, as a caregiver, has been invaluable. While working for Chestnut Knoll At Home, I learned the value of listening to our patients. I learned that aging is difficult and that it can be made better by a network of people who care. I’ll be graduating from medical school in a few months and will be entering ophthalmology residency, where I hope to continue working with the same population of patients I first met as a caregiver. I know I would not be where I am today without Chestnut Knoll At Home.
